Hotel Review: The Clan Hotel, Singapore (Grand Premier Room)

From making a grand entrance via the limousine pick-up from home, savouring a welcome tea ceremony, enjoying curated in-room refreshments including the exclusive Clan Beer - Orient Brew, to complimentary breakfast and free local precinct tour, The Clan bestows an unyielding sense of kinship in our staycation.

Limousine pick-up, welcome tea ceremony, in-room refreshments (Clan Beer - Orient Brew), and free breakfast and local tour. The Clan Hotel staycation review.
The Clan Hotel, Lobby (The Den)

Grounded in Singapore means more reasons for staycation right? In our love for thematic attractions, how can we missed out an induction to The Clan, Singapore, a hotel that relives the tales of clan associations of Singapore’s forefathers and Chinese settlers.

Checking-in In A Limousine

My The Clan Hotel preview stay journey began with meeting our Clan Keeper in a limousine pickup at my home, with the entire check-in process completed in the vehicle prior to our arrival!

Tip: Prior to your arrival, you would receive an email inviting you to complete your preference planner to indicate your estimated arrival time and room preference. Here is where you can also pen your special occasion celebration, and other requests, if any.

The ride to the our staycation took us past the heritage streets in the Telok Ayer, Ann Siang and Chinatown areas where this 30-storey hotel, managed by Far East Hospitality nestles on the heritage conservation project of Far East Square in the Singapore's Central Business District (CBD).

Welcome Tea

Arriving in style through a "private entrance" to the awe-inspiring lobby, named The Den, we were greeted by a welcome tea ceremony created in collaboration with local award-winning tea company, Pryce.

Sipping my fragrant Nanyang Ritual hand brewed by Tea Master Alex, bitting into my Tau Sar Piah (a sweet local traditional pastry), holding the wet towel served (we feel like we are back on SQ's flight), learning all about the different types of tea and brewing method while gazing on the lobby interior inspired from Singapore’s Clan Association in the 1920s and with the earthy tea fragrance in the air, I thought, what can be more perfect?

And there is more...

Grand Premium Room

The Clan Hotel, Singapore (Review) | Grand Premium Room, Bedroom | Singapore Travel Blog

Stepping into our 36sqm Grand Premium Room under the Masters Series Rooms, we were greeted by a stunning 270 degree panoramic view of the heart of Singapore's cultural diversity - the blend of modern skyscrapers of the Central Business District with historic temples and shopshouses of our heritage neighbourhoods in Teloh Ayer, Tanjong Pagar, etc.

The room takes a minimalist modern Asian design with luxurious granite tops and polished dark wood.

It features a comfortable firm king-sized bed, 3 daybeds, an open-concept wardrobe, a 55-inch Smart TV with cable channels, an in-room bluetooth audio system, mini-fridge, free wifi, a work desk fitted with a leather desk pad, in-room safe, power outlets with USB ports and our personal favourite UV sterilisation box for our mobile phones.

The stylish design flows to the beautiful and cozy bathroom.

What we love the most is the deep tub that is exclusive to the Grand Premium Room. It overlooks the city landscape. With its high ceiling window, soaking in the tub on the 27th floor, one can gaze into the clouds and reminisce the travelling days scene of looking out the plane's window.

The single vanity with the mirror backlight is glamourous and functional; and the enclosed rain shower area is huge.

From Vuudh's Lotus & Osmanthus variant to the wooden feel toothbrushes, the toiletries are on point with the room's Asian theming. We were also gifted a set of three different fragrance bar soaps specially handcrafted by the hotel.

Besides the Grand Premium Room, the hotel offers two other room types.

The 31 sqm Premium Room (also under the Master Series Room) with warm woods furnishing and marble tops. It also features a 270 degree panoramic view.

The cozy 24 sqm Deluxe Room with separate vanity and bath.

In-room Refreshments and Welcome Amenities (Masters Series Rooms)

Our selected complimentary 5 in-room refreshments as well as the hotel's exclusive The Clan Beer - Orient Brew are all set when we arrived.

Tip: Prior to your arrival, you would receive an email inviting you to select your choice of 5 in-room refreshments from a menu which includes an assortment of Smoked Cheese Crackers, Potato Chips, Nuts, Chocolates, Cookies, and Drinks including The Clan Beer - Orient Brew. Do note that 2 complimentary bottles of The Clan Beer - Orient Brew are already included in your in-room mini-bar.

You can find your Welcome Amenity of Pryce’s curated tea blend and Bak Kut Teh cookies in the pantry along with a Nespresso coffee machine and tea-making facilities set in a pretty oriental tray which you could make a cuppa, lay back on the window-side daybeds and enjoy!

Tip: Do note that bottled water is not provided, there is a Hyflux filtered water tap in the bathroom for filtered drinking water. Amenities and services can be ordered through the TV.

Sipping our tea, we received a sweet pleasant surprise - a rich and delightful Ondeh Ondeh cake plated in a cute beautiful bird cage and a bag of creamy chocolate truffles to enjoy for the evening.

Masters Series Rooms (Grand Premium and Premium Rooms) are entitled to The Clan Keeper’s service which includes a personal local precinct tour, complimentary apparel pressing, and shoe spa and shine.

Turndown Service

Come evening, we enjoyed their turndown service - where we were given the calming Cocoon Ritual tea and essential oil for a good night sleep.

Hotel Amenities: Sky Pool and Sky Gym

The Clan Hotel, Singapore (Review) | Sky Pool Night View | Singapore Travel Blog

If you love infinity pool, you will love the Sky Pool and outdoor jacuzzi on the 30th floor.

The pool's day view features a stunning city skyline. We would recommend to swim during the day as the water is quite cold; and take in the similarly breathtaking night view in the warm outdoor jacuzzi instead.

With the safe distancing measure in place, the pool is limited to 8 pax per session; hence, we pretty much have the whole pool to ourselves.

Tip: The pool opens from 7am to 9.45pm and access per session is limited to 1 hour. Pre-booking is required, if you are staying for 2D 1N, you can book the pool for 2 days. You can make both your pool and gym bookings through email/preference planner prior to check-in or during your stay. To get your preferred sessions, we would recommend to book your slot soonest.

On the same level as the Sky Pool, is the 24-hr Sky Gym fitted with modern fitness facilities and equipped with a comprehensive selection of on-demand virtual classes from world’s leading instructors.

Tip: Access per session is limited to 1 hour and pre-booking is required. If you are staying for 2D 1N, you can book the gym for 2 days. The gym is limited to 10 pax per session.

Besides the pool and gym, lounge and shower suites are also available for those who need to freshen up or do their workcation during early check-in or late checkout. There is also an al fresco seating area, Terrace, on the 4th floor.

Complimentary Breakfast from Qin Restaurant and Bar

The Clan Hotel, Singapore (Review) | Qin Restaurant and Bar | Singapore Travel Blog

Breakfast is served at the beautiful Qin Restaurant and Bar which features a gorgeous floor-to-ceiling window. The restaurant, managed by Tung Lok group, occupies the 4th and 5th floor of the hotel, with the 4th floor as the main dining area and 5th floor as the bar.

Sumptuous breakfast set per pax (choice of 1 out of 6 options) is included daily for guest staying in the Grand Premium and Premium Rooms. Personally, we prefer the Home Brewed Local Porridge over the Continental Breakfast.

If you are sleeping in and have missed the breakfast hour (6.30am - 10.30am), you can opt for their complimentary in-room late brunch (10.30am - 4.00pm) instead. We love their Har Cheong Style Chicken Wings served with Lapcheong Potato!

Besides breakfast, Qin also serves a modern Asian lunch and dinner menu.

Personal Local Precinct Tour

The Clan Hotel, Singapore (Review) | Local Precinct Tour | Singapore Travel Blog

This 1-hour free tour which runs twice weekly at 4pm on Wednesdays and Fridays brings guests around the vibrant vicinity of The Clan Hotel to experience the rich heritage, culture and local cuisine at places of interest such as Fuk Tak Chi Museum and Maxwell Food Centre. Here, you will also get to enjoy a free local drink on the house!

Check Out

We have requested for a late check-out due to work matters and were given an extended late check-out at 4pm as well as a limousine transfer back home!

Bagged with more goodies from the Clan Collection, (we probably lost count on the number of extra freebies we got in our stay), stepping into our limousine transfer back home, with the concierge waving a warm goodbye to us, it dawned to us that we are ending one of the best staycation we had!

The warm memories of the exceptional personalised service, conversations with the Clan Keepers, and the hotel's attention to details and expertly-curated experience, we certainly felt an unyielding sense of clan kinship in our stay. Thank you The Clan Hotel, Singapore for the wonderful preview stay, and we certainly look forward to visiting again.
